The Quincunx (Charles Palliser)

A big, sprawling, Dickensian story about a boy who must uncover the secrets of his past, solve his mother's murder, and claim his rightful inheritance. I read the whole thing, then got to the last sentence, realized how much unreliable narration was happening, and immediately went back to read it again.

Evidently this was a best-seller in 1989? But I've never met anyone else who's read it. If you love it too, let me know!
